STAINLESS REBAR FOR MARINE APPLICATIONS
UGIGRIP® for structures in aggressive seawater environment
France and its neighboring countries, due to their geographical location, have a large seafront. Maritime traffic has changed considerably in recent years, particularly with the enlargement of the European Union, the economic boom in some countries and the globalization of trade.
All this excitement is leading to major developments in all port infrastructures.
Nowadays, concretes are mainly used for the construction of a large number of structures and/or structures located in the maritime environment.
These structures in maritime sites are specific because they are subject to numerous environmental and climatic constraints
- attacks and chemical aggression of seawater
- physical impacts of water movements: waves, swell, currents, level variations
- attacks related to wind, high humidity and sunlight
Seawater environments accelerate chloride penetration
When exposed to seawater, chlorides penetrate the concrete at an accelerated rate and consequently reach the reinforcement. Corrosion of the reinforced concrete can therefore occur at an early stage.
In addition to visual impairments such as cracks and concrete spalling, the damaging process of reinforcement corrosion can ultimately lead to load-bearing capacity relevant cross-sectional losses of the reinforcement itself.

The use of stainless steels is recommended because only they offer a guarantee of long-life results for only a reasonable additional initial investment cost.
Various stainless steel grades meet the requirements of the exposure class.
